For over 25 years, Angelia Jackson has devoted her time to serving South Carolina
State University. Her acclaimed work ethic has earned her several awards at the university,
and she continues to help uphold the SC State Division of Institutional Advancement
in any way she can.
Jackson is the director of operations for the Division of Institutional Advancement.
She assists the division in communicating with alumni and other constituents. She
also helps with planning and hosting special events.
Her division has experienced great success with fundraising and building and maintaining
relationships. Jackson is from Santee, South Carolina, but has lived in Orangeburg for the past 40
years. She received her associate degree in business administration from Orangeburg-Calhoun
Technical College and her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Limestone
University.
During her tenure at SC State, she has been named Division of Institutional Advancement
Staff Employee of the Year in 2001, 2005 and 2016. This year, she was named Staff Employee of the Year for the entire university.
Q: What motivates you to perform your best?
Jackson: I know that God sees everything, so I have learned to work as if I am working for
God.
Q: Why did you choose SC State?
Jackson: I was trying to get away from working very, very long hours. Well, that only lasted
a few months as every workday at SC State has been full to the max and beyond. There
is never a dull moment in Institutional Advancement.
Q: What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Jackson: My favorite spot is my office on the third floor of Lowman Hall. I love the view
and quietness.
Q: What has been your most memorable moment at SC State and why?
Jackson: In 2010, when my nephew Elijah Corley, an SC State student, was one of the leading
actors in the first re-enactment of the Orangeburg Massacre. He and the others were
awesome. That production was very touching and professional.
Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies?
Jackson: I love cruising, working in my yard, and spending time with family and high school
classmates.
Q: Do you have a motto and why?
Jackson: I try to live by the Golden Rule: Treat others just as you want to be treated. Why?
This is what the Bible tells us, and I want to be treated well by others. God already
treats me very well and then some.
