Former player Drayton ‘Diesel’ Jones donates $20,000 to SC State men’s basketball program

Former South Carolina State University basketball player Drayton “Diesel” Jones has donated $20,000 to the university’s men’s basketball program, giving back to the institution where his collegiate career began. Jones — a 6-foot-11 center — played two seasons at SC State before transferring to Butler University, a nationally respected basketball powerhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

SC State counseling initiatives awarded $4.5M in federal support

South Carolina State University has received several new federal grants that will help more graduate students train for careers in counseling and rehabilitation. The funding supports programs that prepare counselors to work with children and teens facing trauma and disability, as well as programs that train professionals to support individuals with disabilities as they pursue education, independence and employment.
