SC State Homecoming Week to feature new downtown Orangeburg community showcase

Homecoming 2023 attracted more than 30,000 people to the SC State campus.

Homecoming Week is Oct. 19-27. The Bulldog Community Fan Fest is set for Thursday, Oct. 24.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – South Carolina State University will welcome thousands of alumni, their families and friends of the university to campus in the coming week for Homecoming 2024.

“Homecoming is the biggest tradition at most colleges and universities around the country, but SC State’s celebrations truly are legendary,” SC State President Alexander Conyers said. “Our HBCU culture is like no other, and when the Bulldog family gets together each year, it’s the grandest and liveliest family reunion you could ever imagine.”

SC State will celebrate “2024 Homecoming: An Elite Experience Powered by Pepsi” beginning Saturday, Oct. 19, and concluding Sunday, Oct. 27.

“This will be an unforgettable celebration of Bulldog pride,” said Dr. John M. Lee Jr., SC State vice president for institutional advancement. “With a full week of exciting events, there will be something for everyone who considers SC State a cherished part of their family.”

Along with a series of concerts and other events for students only, SC State is offering several Homecoming events for alumni and members of the community to join the celebration.

Bulldog Community Fan Fest 

New this year is the Bulldog Community Fan Fest, an event engaging the community and showcasing the offerings of SC State. Open to the public, the event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 6-10 p.m. at the Downtown Orangeburg Pavilion. Various SC State departments will host tables to share information about their programs and initiatives.

  • Homecoming Gospel Concert, Sunday, Oct. 20, 6-9 p.m., Martin Luther King Auditorium. Zacardi Cortez featuring SC State United Voices of Christ Gospel Choir. Tickets required.
  • The Coronation of Mister and Miss SC State, Wednesday, Oct. 23, 7-8 p.m., Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center (SHM).
  • Laugh Out Loud Comedy Show, Thursday, Oct. 24, 8-10 p.m., The Patel Center, 1175 Five Chop Road, Orangeburg. Starring comedian Jay Phillips and featuring comedians Tlink and Shauan Jones. www.lolcomedyshows.com.
  • Yardfest, Friday, Oct. 25, noon-7 p.m., Plaza/Rose Garden, Bradham-Manning Field and Greek plots. Food trucks on Geathers Street from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and the Football Practice Field from 11 a.m-10 p.m. Powered by Pepsi.
  • First Lady’s Book Signing, 3-5 p.m., Friday Oct. 25, Engineering and Computer Science Complex.
  • Greek Step Show, 8-10 p.m., Friday Oct. 25, SHM. Powered by Pepsi.
  • Bulldogs on The Run 5k & Bark, Saturday, Oct. 26, 6:30-9 a.m., Edisto Memorial Gardens, Orangeburg Fine Arts Center, 649 Riverside Drive, Orangeburg. https://bulldogsontherun.org.
  • Homecoming Parade, 9-11 a.m. Edisto Gardens through downtown Orangeburg and the SC State campus. Led by Parade Marshalls Oliver “Buddy” and Josie Pough.
  • Homecoming Football Game, 3:30 p.m. kickoff, Oliver C. Dawson Stadium. Tickets required.
