Dr. Shayla E. Ferguson is a counselor educator and certified substance abuse clinical counselor dedicated to advancing mental health, rehabilitation counseling, and professional leadership. As an Adult Clinical Counselor with the Tri-County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, she manages a caseload of individuals receiving prevention, intervention, and treatment services, providing individual and group counseling, conducting assessments, and guiding clients through the recovery process.
In addition to her clinical practice, Ferguson has served as a co-teacher at South Carolina State University, Walden University, and Adler Graduate School, teaching courses in rehabilitation counseling, clinical supervision, multicultural counseling, ethics, family therapy, and abnormal psychology. Her professional experience also includes positions as a school-based mental health therapist, vocational rehabilitation counselor, behavior interventionist, and vocational rehabilitation counselor for the South Carolina Commission for the Blind. She has contributed to professional presentations, published scholarly work, and served in leadership roles with Chi Sigma Iota and the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.
A two-time South Carolina State University graduate, Ferguson earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology, cum laude, and a Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling before completing a Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Supervision. She continues to demonstrate her commitment to the counseling profession through clinical service, counselor education, mentorship, and professional advocacy.
