Honor. Leadership. Service.
Whether leading soldiers in combat environments or shaping the next generation of military leaders, Major Karl Johnson has built a career defined by service, strategic leadership, and organizational excellence. As Director of the Cavalry Leaders Course for the United States Army, he led the modernization and implementation of a new Program of Instruction for advanced reconnaissance and security operations, developed a 1,300-hour curriculum, and directed the Department of Defense's institution responsible for training reconnaissance leaders from the manager to brigade executive level. He also certified more than 200 mid-career and senior military leaders while strengthening collaboration between the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps.
Johnson's leadership extends across domestic and international assignments. As a Troop Commander, he was responsible for a 250-person military organization during a 20-month command that included operations in Syria and Kuwait. He managed more than $20 million in equipment, logistics, and communications assets while supporting mission execution in high-risk environments. Earlier in his career, he served as a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer, where he helped plan and execute multinational training exercises for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and mentored soldiers while supporting coalition training initiatives.
A graduate of South Carolina State University, Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice before completing advanced military education through the Command and General Staff College and the School of Advanced Military Studies. His distinguished military career has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Bronze Star Medal, two Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, and the Army Achievement Medal with Combat "C" Device. Beyond his military service, he continues to support his alma mater as a mentor to Army ROTC cadets, recruiter for the Bulldog Battalion, and philanthropic contributor to South Carolina State University.
