Albert Shuler

Albert J. Shuler has devoted his career to developing student musicians while advancing the tradition and excellence of HBCU band programs and music education. He currently serves as Assistant Director of Bands, Chief Arranger, and Director of the Pep Band at South Carolina State University; Director of Bands at Hunter-Kinard-Tyler Middle/High School in Neeses, South Carolina; and Music Teacher at Marshall Elementary School in Orangeburg, South Carolina. 

At South Carolina State University, he designs marching band field shows, arranges music, recruits and mentors student musicians, and helps lead one of the nation's most recognized collegiate marching bands. His leadership has contributed to increased student participation and retention, expanded recruitment efforts, and the continued growth of the Marching 101 Summer Music Camp. 

With nearly two decades of experience in music education and performance, Mr. Shuler has served as an educator, arranger, clinician, and mentor across collegiate and K–12 settings. His work has included directing rehearsals, composing and arranging music, developing performance concepts, and mentoring aspiring musicians and student arrangers. He has represented South Carolina State University on national stages, including the Super Bowl LX Soulful Celebration, the National Battle of the Bands, the Presidential Inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Indianapolis Colts NFL Halftime Show, and the ESPN Showcase featuring the Marching 101. His contributions have earned numerous honors, including the 2025 Staff Employee of the Year Award for the Division of Academic Affairs, the Provost's Recognition Award for Promoting and Enhancing the Band Program, and recognition by Music Greeks, Inc. 40 Under 40 Club. 

Committed to continuous growth as an educator and leader, Mr. Shuler earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry from South Carolina State University before completing a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and a Master of Music in Music Education. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Music Education. He continues to inspire the next generation of musicians through teaching, mentorship, performance, and service while elevating the legacy of South Carolina State University's renowned band program.
