Jona' L. Hodges
As an English Instructor at South Carolina State University, Hodges is responsible for teaching and monitoring students' writing skills, reading comprehension, and public speaking abilities. Her role also includes identifying any learning challenges, evaluating students' progress, and assessing their knowledge through a series of tests and writing assignments provided to allow practice and to enhance their writing skills.

Hodges is an alumna of South Carolina State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and a Master of Arts in Teaching English degree. Hodges joined the English and Communications Department of South Carolina State University in August, 2021.

As an English Instructor, she is solely responsible for:
Instruction and Curriculum Development: Creating and implementing comprehensive lesson plans for courses, such as English Composition, Literature, and Advanced College Grammar. This includes selecting relevant texts and adapting teaching methods to cater to diverse learning styles.
Assessment and Evaluation: Grading essays, exams, and projects, as well as providing constructive, timely feedback on student performance.
Classroom Management: Facilitating discussions, managing and maintaining a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Academic Support & Advising: Holding regular office hours to mentor students on academic goals and writing improvement.
Administrative & Institutional Duties: Maintaining accurate attendance and grade records, participating in department meetings, collaborating on curriculum, and staying updated on educational trends.
As the University Writing Center Coordinator, some of her responsibilities include:
- Tutoring and Instruction: Conducting in-person one-on-one sessions to further explain and demonstrate the writing process
- Helping students understand writing assignment prompts
- Teaching grammar, punctuation, and documentation styles
- Mentoring tutors
- Marketing writing lab services through class visits
- Maintaining a welcoming environment
