Dr. Demi Washington teaches four courses each semester from a pool of courses in both the journalism and broadcasting concentrations.
Background
Research Interests
Dr. Washington's interest includes investigative journalism and reporting on the actions of those in power, exposing corruption and wrongdoing; democracy and the use of interpersonal communication as a tool to empower marginalized individuals or groups and the role of interpersonal communication in facilitating dialogue, sharing knowledge and promoting participation.
Some of Dr. Washington's research projects focus on designing an interactive user-centered interpersonal communication system thatfacilitates two-way communication and interaction, that identifies the needs, preferences and limitations of users. Future research interests include human stories of immigrants (complexities of immigration law and the impact of immigration on society) and for engagement in constant public discourse to maintain a healthy democracy.
