               As an institution with more than 125 years of history, South Carolina State University
                  is the perfect place to study the history of America, South Carolina and the world,
                  especially the Civil Rights Era and the ongoing effort to secure those rights.
               
               SC State’s History Program provides a solid liberal arts background. In addition to
                  acquainting students with fundamental development in the human past. the program offers
                  students the opportunity to develop skills in analysis, synthesis, research and critical
                  thinking.
               
               Living History
               
               South Carolina State University is an HBCU that has operated since 1896 and has transformed
                  over generations from a small teachers college to a four-year university with a variety
                  of programs in the sciences, business and the humanities.
               
               Our campus was the site a pivotal moment in American history. The Orangeburg Massacre
                  occurred on SC State’s campus in 1968, in which three young men were killed and 28
                  protesters were wounded.
               
               What Can I Do with a History Degree?
               
               Graduates typically work in teaching, business, government, law and international
                  relations. Many go on to law school and other graduate degree programs.
               
               The program provides you the preparation to enter graduate studies or pursue professional
                  degrees and careers in history, political science, sociology or politics and journalism.
               
               Our graduates include civil rights pioneers, military generals and admirals, groundbreaking
                  scientists, attorneys and judges – all of whom have made history in their own right
                  starting on this very campus.
               
               The SC State History Program has excellent faculty highly recognized for their scholarly
                  pursuits. It offers small class sizes with a program length of four years. 
               
               Along with a general Bachelor of Arts in History, SC State offers history students
                  to delve into two specializations: African American Studies and International Studies.

                              African-American Studies
The History/African American Studies program offers an interdisciplinary approach
                              to the history of, culture, and contemporary situations of African Americans. It draws
                              its unique insight of other social sciences (psychology, sociology, political science,
                              economics, and criminal justice).
